Birmingham/London/Chester/Southampton/Edinburgh/Exeter, United Kingdom and Ireland. Ramboll is seeking a German-speaking Project Management Director to join our UK Transport team. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced project professional with a proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure programmes across the transport, highways, ports, aviation, energy and water sectors.

You will lead major multidisciplinary projects from concept through to delivery, overseeing project governance, commercial performance, client relationships and high-performing teams. Working across the UK, Ireland and Europe, you will take a leading role in coordinating with our German teams and managing project delivery through our UK & Ireland-based delivery teams, helping to support and grow a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects.

As a senior leader, you will play a key role in developing relationships with German-speaking clients and stakeholders, while contributing to the continued growth of Ramboll's project management offering. This role offers flexible working and the opportunity to shape the delivery of major infrastructure programmes for a diverse portfolio of public and private sector clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver major, complex infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • Provide overall accountability for project performance, including safety, programme, cost, quality, risk and change control.
  • Act as the client’s senior representative, managing relationships with clients, regulators, statutory bodies and key stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate large multi-disciplinary teams, including internal resources, consultants, contractors and supply chain partners.
  • Plan and manage design stages, ensuring the production and delivery of high-quality, safe and compliant design solutions.
  • Oversee procurement strategies and contract management (e.g. NEC, ICE, FIDIC, Design & Build).
  • Champion health, safety, environmental, sustainability and customer outcomes, embedding best practice across projects.
  • Prepare and present governance reports, monthly progress updates and financial forecasts to senior leadership and clients.
  • Undertake project and programme reviews to drive continuous improvement and lessons learned.
  • Support and lead business development activities, including client engagement, bid leadership and preparation of winning proposals.
  • Contribute to the professional development of the wider team and the strategic growth of the business.

Skills, Experience & Attributes
  • Fluent in German (both speaking and writing).
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale, complex construction and/or design-led infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of DCO processes and/or consented infrastructure environments would be an advantage.
  • Extensive experience in project, financial, programme and resource management, including multi-million-pound budgets or fees.
  • Experience managing and directing large project teams (often 100+ people), both insourced and outsourced.
  • Strong project controls capability, with confidence using data and analysis to drive decision-making.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels in both matrix and non-matrix environments.
  • Highly collaborative, curious and confident leader, capable of driving change and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering to demanding schedules, targets and quality standards.
  • Business development capability, including leading bids and writing winning proposals.
Qualifications
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent (e.g. ICE, APM, CIOB, RICS, PMP).
  • Member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE).
  • Health & Safety qualification (e.g. SMSTS, NEBOSH) desirable.
