Overview
As Technical Director, you will lead Ramboll’s coastal engineering discipline within the ports, coastal, maritime, and climate resilience business. You’ll shape strategy, grow client relationships, and deliver complex coastal projects through a global network. You’ll drive sustainable, innovative solutions for coastal adaptation and climate resilience while mentoring teams and expanding the practice across markets. This role combines technical leadership with business development to elevate our coastal capability.

Responsibilities
- Direct major coastal and maritime project delivery and programmes
- Provide technical oversight for coastal defense, flood resilience, and waterfront schemes
- Lead development of innovative, sustainable coastal adaptation solutions
- Drive business growth through client engagement and market development
- Expand and strengthen the coastal engineering team via recruitment and mentoring
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulators and industry stakeholders
- Identify opportunities across public and private markets including coastal resilience and energy infrastructure
- Support multidisciplinary collaboration across engineering, environmental and advisory services
- Act as senior technical authority to clients and project teams
- Oversee project performance, commercial management, and quality assurance
- Represent the business externally through industry engagement and networks
Key requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering or related discipline; postgraduate qualifications desirable
- Chartered Engineer status with ICE, CIWEM or equivalent
- Significant experience delivering coastal and maritime infrastructure projects in consultancy or related environments
- Strong technical knowledge of coastal processes, flood risk, coastal adaptation, and maritime infrastructure design
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large/complex projects or frameworks
- Proven track record in business development and client relationship management
- Commercial awareness and experience in managing project financial performance
- Strong leadership and people management, including mentoring
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning
