Ramboll is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer in our Binghamton, NY office. The selected candidate for this position will be expected to work across a wide range of mechanical engineering knowledge areas with a focus on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning related work.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Performing design and engineering work in various areas of the mechanical discipline, primarily HVAC; however, the candidate should also expect work in industrial piping, plumbing, central utility plants, compressed air systems, chilled water systems, steam systems, and fire protection.
- Coordinating with other engineering disciplines to produce final construction drawings and details associated with mechanical engineering projects.
- Developing conceptual designs and cost estimates for early stages of the project life cycle.
- Conducting or participating in investigative energy assessments to identify energy and cost savings measures.
- Assessing and designing building ventilation systems based on requirements for heat removal in industrial spaces and maintaining indoor air quality.
- Conducting spreadsheet analysis to assess the energy and cost savings of proposed energy conservation measures (ECMs).
- Utilizing building modeling software (HAP or Trane Trace) to determine envelope heat gains/losses and assess savings potentials of ECMs.
- Specifying mechanical equipment.
- Designing plumbing and building utility piping systems.
- Summarizing engineering results in written reports and/or presentations that are cohesive and of the highest quality.
- Visiting job sites as required for projects involving upfit of existing systems. A mix of day trips and overnight domestic trips should be expected.
- Adhering to the policies and standards set forth in Ramboll's Project Execution Manual.
- Promoting and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees by adhering to Ramboll's Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures.
Skills & Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or greater.
- 5+ years of experience in engineering and design of HVAC systems.
- Licensed professional engineer strongly preferred.
- Ability to foster a creative engineering environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work across a wide range of areas within the mechanical engineering discipline.
- Strong computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit design software preferred.
