We invite you to bring your expertise in and passion for structural dynamics and vibration design into play as you work on high profile projects and push the boundaries of vibration design. To succeed in this role, you must have an understanding of vibration engineering and experience of numerical programming (e.g. Python or similar).
Do you want to push the boundaries of your profession and develop your excellence in an open, collaborative and empowering culture? We work to create a sustainable future and our inspiring projects and innovative solutions aim to set the standard among our peers. You will join a global company that has been growing successfully since its founding in 1945. Together, we lead and leave a positive impact on societies, companies and people around the world.
You will join our Buildings Team as part of our specialist vibration engineering team. The team undertake widely varied work, ranging from the design of ultra-sensitive scientific facilities to groundborne noise and vibration in buildings affected by railways. The team adopt specialist analytical and numerical modelling techniques together with a sound practical approach through field measurements. We have developed, and continue to develop, bespoke in-house software applications for optimising vibration designs. We have a significant pipeline of secured projects in an ever-diversifying field of vibration facilities and projects and are looking for an enthusiastic new member of the team to assist with their delivery in both UK and international territories.
The role spans across the fields of many disciplines and, as such, we are open to candidates from an acoustics, structural engineering or mechanical engineering background with an interest in developing a specialism in this area. The projects we work on both challenge and interest us and we are proud that we are central to the design of countless landmark developments.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:
- Work as part of a team as well as managing your own time on projects
- Assist in designing, carrying out, interpreting and reporting on vibration surveys
- Undertake tasks in the design of facilities to achieve low levels of vibration including: analytical and numerical modelling of ground vibration
- Carry out numerical modelling of buildings to predict the levels of vibration/work closely with modellers
- Assist in the development of existing and new software applications for vibration design
- Carry out site visits and collaborate with project teams to deliver the technical requirements in completed buildings
- Undertake vibration measurements and be comfortable with data processing of field-test data
- Carry out Research and Development aligned with project work
Your starting point for constant growth:
- A degree in civil/structural engineering, mechanical engineering, or acoustics, with specific experience in dynamics and vibration analysis. A Masters or PhD degree in this or closely related subject area will be an advantage.
- Experience in the field or a closely related discipline. Candidates with PhD but no industrial experience will also be considered.
- Working towards professional qualification (e.g. CEng MICE, MIOA, MIMechE, etc.)
- Highly numerate with understanding of signal analysis, ground borne vibration, mechanical and electrical plant vibration
- Experience in numerical programming, ideally in Python programming language, although other languages may be acceptable
Personal qualities that will help you succeed in this role include: Highly numerate and having a strong passion in this field, excellent communication skills, good management of own workload within area of responsibility.
Base location Flexible – Final location will be agreed based on your grade/seniority, team location, client and project needs, and your preferred hybrid working pattern. Some roles may require regular time in a specific hub and occasional travel to client or site locations.
