Help us build a £5m business into a £10m business
A.L.O.B. Ltd is an established, owner-managed sports equipment and games business with £5m annual turnover, a team of 12 and an ambition to grow to £10m over the next 3-4 years.
We're looking for an experienced, commercially minded Head of Finance & Operations to join our Senior Management Team and play a central role in that next stage of growth.
This is not a traditional finance role.
Alongside leading Finance, you'll have responsibility for working capital, inventory, supply chain, freight, 3PL and Customer Service.
You'll need to understand how stock, cash, margins, freight, fulfilment and customer experience combine to drive profitability — and be able to turn that understanding into action.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll be a key commercial and operational sounding board with genuine influence over how the business develops.
We're looking for someone who combines the financial discipline of a qualified accountant with the commercial and operational mindset of a business leader.
The Business
A.L.O.B. Ltd operates three established specialist brands: RAM Rugby, RAM Cricket and Uber Games.
For over 25 years, RAM Rugby and RAM Cricket have supplied sports equipment to clubs, schools, universities and corporate customers, while developing a growing direct-to-consumer ecommerce and marketplace business across channels including Amazon and Decathlon.
Uber Games has specialised in premium indoor and outdoor games for more than 20 years.
We're now looking to strengthen the financial and operational foundations of the business to support our next phase of growth.
That means better data, better forecasting, tighter working-capital management, smarter inventory decisions, improved operational efficiency and clearer visibility of where we make money.
That's where you come in.
What You'll Own - Finance & Commercial
You'll lead Finance and take responsibility for management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, financial control and commercial analysis.
You'll provide clear insight into revenue, margins, costs and profitability and help turn financial information into better commercial decisions.
You'll lead the day-to-day Finance function, including management of our Bookkeeper and coordination with external accountants and advisers.
Inventory represents a significant investment for the business, so you'll have real ownership of how effectively we deploy that capital.
You'll lead inventory forecasting and replenishment, balancing availability, demand, supplier lead times and cash.
You'll improve visibility of purchasing commitments, stock ageing and future requirements while reducing excess and obsolete inventory.
Supply Chain, Freight & Fulfilment
You'll oversee our international supply chain from overseas factories through to UK fulfilment.
Working with suppliers, freight forwarders and 3PL partners, you'll look for opportunities to improve costs, lead times, reliability and service.
You don't need to have spent your career as a supply-chain specialist, but you do need to understand the operational and financial consequences of these decisions.
Customer Service & Operations
You'll provide leadership and oversight of Customer Service, establishing clear KPIs and accountability around response times, returns, refunds and complaints.
More importantly, you'll identify the root causes behind recurring problems and improve the processes and systems that create them.
The Person We're Looking For
You'll be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong commercial finance experience, ideally gained within an ecommerce, consumer-products, retail, wholesale or other stock-led business.
You'll understand the relationship between inventory, working capital, margin and cash and have meaningful exposure to Operations, Supply Chain or Logistics.
You'll be:
- Commercial and analytical.
- Hands-on when required.
- Comfortable challenging existing ways of working.
- Strong with systems, data and advanced Excel.
- Able to move between detail and the bigger picture.
- Pragmatic and solutions-focused.
- Comfortable taking ownership and seeing things through.
Experience with Sage Intacct, Amazon/marketplaces, international sourcing, freight, 3PL, BI or inventory-planning systems would be advantageous, but we don't expect one person to tick every box.
What You'll Have the Opportunity to Change
Over the next few years, we want to significantly improve:
- Financial visibility and control.
- Cash-flow and working-capital management.
- Inventory forecasting and stock efficiency.
- Product and channel profitability.
- Freight and fulfilment costs.
- 3PL and Customer Service performance.
- Management information, systems and processes.
- The scalability of the business as we grow.
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of the financial and operational engine of an entrepreneurial business.
You'll work directly with the Managing Director, have significant autonomy to improve how the business operates, and play an important role in helping us grow from £5m towards £10m turnover over the next 3-4 years.
If you're a commercially minded finance leader who enjoys understanding how the whole business works — rather than simply reporting the numbers — we'd like to hear from you.
