The Science Lead at Willowfield Academy provides subject leadership and expert guidance to strengthen the quality of science education within a specialist SEND setting. Working within the academy’s leadership structure and in close partnership with senior leaders, the postholder will drive high‑quality curriculum design, adaptive teaching and evidence‑informed practice in science. You will ensure that all pupils, regardless of need, access an ambitious, inclusive and coherently sequenced science curriculum that enables them to achieve positive outcomes.
To do this, you will model effective practice, support and challenge colleagues, and foster a culture of high expectations, collaboration and continuous improvement within the subject. A central part of the role is leading robust subject‑level quality assurance and curriculum evaluation, ensuring that science teaching and learning are consistently ambitious, inclusive and responsive to pupils’ needs.
The ideal candidate will be a values‑driven and highly skilled Science specialist with a proven track record of securing high standards in teaching and learning. You will bring strong expertise in science curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment and inclusive practice, alongside the leadership capability to drive improvement within a specialist SEND setting.
