About Us

Harris Primary Academy Crystal Palace (HPACR) is a two‑form entry school situated in Penge, part of the London Borough of Bromley. Summary

We are looking for an Afterschool Club Assistant to work under the guidance of the After School Club Leader and Principal, providing childcare for pupils attending the After School Club at Harris Primary Academy Crystal Palace. The role involves encouraging and supervising children during the club, ensuring their safety and wellbeing, and assisting in a wide range of play activities in a relaxed, informed, and caring environment.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Maintain a safe, creative, and stimulating environment for children's play experiences.
  • Assist the Club Manager in planning a programme of activities designed to meet the needs of the children.
  • Form and maintain professional boundaries with children, staff, volunteers, parents and carers.
  • Ensure that all policies, standards and guidelines are adhered to.
  • Provide a creative programme of arts, crafts, games, sports, drama, music, and off‑site activities relevant to the needs and interests of all children, irrespective of race, religion, culture, language, physical or mental ability.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with children and their families, valuing parental involvement.
  • Be responsible for Health and Safety matters at the afterschool club, including clearing, setting up and running activities, both indoor and outdoor, trips, outings and general risk assessment.
  • Attend weekly team meetings to discuss and assess progress and any issues.
  • Carry out financial and administrative tasks, such as petty cash, registering children and processing parental forms.
  • Keep the building and areas of use, including toilets, clean, tidy and accessible.
  • Follow first aid procedures, keeping records of all accidents and treatments given.
  • Deputise for the Club Manager when they are on leave, sick or otherwise unavailable.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant discipline (Playworker or Childcare).
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge of first aid.
  • Willingness to undertake further training, if necessary.
  • Experience in a similar role or working within a school setting.
  • Experience supporting students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
