Rainham Steel is looking for a Lead Maintenance Engineer to join the team!

Location: Rainham Steel Co Ltd, Althorpe Wharf, North Lincolnshire, DN15 8XF

Salary: Hourly rate from £17.50 - £20.00 p/h depending on experience

Basic working hours: 6am - 15.30pm, 42.5 hours per week

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Lead Maintenance Engineer - The Role:

We are seeking a proactive Lead Maintenance Engineer to lead, coordinate, and continually improve all mechanical and electrical maintenance activities across our Althorpe Wharf site. The role is hands-on but also requires planning, prevention, and reliability.

You will be responsible for ensuring all plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. Strong technical judgement, structured maintenance planning, and clear communication with operators, contractors, and management are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventative maintenance - Develop, implement, and maintain structured PM schedules for all site machinery
  • Breakdown response - Attend urgent faults, diagnose issues, and restore equipment safely and efficiently
  • Operator liaison - Work closely with machine operators to understand issues, gather feedback, and prevent recurring faults
  • External engineering coordination - Liaise with contractors, OEM engineers, and suppliers to arrange repairs, servicing, and technical support
  • Machinery oversight - Maintain knowledge of rebar machines to ensure correct servicing and safe operations
  • Safety compliance - Ensure all maintenance activities follow safe systems of work, lock-out procedures, and PPE rules
  • Record keeping - Maintain accurate logs of maintenance actions, inspections, and corrective measures
  • Continuous improvement - Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance equipment performance
  • Team support - Provide guidance to operators and support staff on basic maintenance and safe machine use
  • Stock & spares control - Manage critical spares, order parts, and ensure availability for planned and reactive work
  • Reporting - Report directly to the Site Manager, providing updates on equipment status, risks, and planned works

Person Specification:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance skills
  • Experience maintaining industrial machinery
  • Ability to diagnose faults and plan effective repairs
  • Good understanding of safety rules, lock-out procedures, and compliance
  • Ability to plan work, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Clear communication and a fair, respectful approach
  • Basic IT and paperwork skills
  • Flexible to do paid overtime when necessary
  • Must have a good command of the English language
  • Must be a good timekeeper
  • Experience with Schnell rebar machines (desirable)
  • Previous maintenance leadership or coordination experience (desirable)
  • Experience implementing preventative maintenance systems (desirable)
  • Record of improving equipment reliability or reducing downtime (desirable)
