Rainham Steel is looking for a Lead Maintenance Engineer to join the team!

Location: Rainham Steel Co Ltd, Althorpe Wharf, North Lincolnshire, DN15 8XF

Salary: Hourly rate from £17.50 - £20.00 p/h depending on experience

Basic working hours: 6am - 15.30pm, 42.5 hours per week

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

About Us: Rainham Steel, a leading UK steel stockholder, requires an experienced maintenance engineer to work at our Althorpe Wharf Site, North Lincolnshire depot. Offering a competitive rate of pay, a dynamic and friendly working environment, and a secure position within an established company.

The Role: We are seeking a proactive Lead Maintenance Engineer to lead, coordinate, and continually improve all mechanical and electrical maintenance activities across our Althorpe Wharf site. The role is hands-on but also requires planning, prevention, and reliability. You will be responsible for ensuring all plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. Strong technical judgement, structured maintenance planning, and clear communication with operators, contractors, and management are essential.

  • Attend urgent faults, diagnose issues, and restore equipment safely and efficiently
  • Work closely with machine operators to understand issues, gather feedback, and prevent recurring faults
  • Liaise with contractors, OEM engineers, and suppliers to arrange repairs, servicing, and technical support
  • Maintain knowledge of rebar machines to ensure correct servicing and safe operations
  • Ensure all maintenance activities follow safe systems of work, lock-out procedures, and PPE rules
  • Maintain accurate logs of maintenance actions, inspections, and corrective measures
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance equipment performance
  • Provide guidance to operators and support staff on basic maintenance and safe machine use
  • Report directly to the Site Manager, providing updates on equipment status, risks, and planned works

Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance skills
  • Experience maintaining industrial machinery
  • Flexible to do paid overtime when necessary
  • Must have a good command of the English language
  • Experience with Schnell rebar machines (desirable)
  • Previous maintenance leadership or coordination experience (desirable)
  • Experience implementing preventative maintenance systems (desirable)
  • Record of improving equipment reliability or reducing downtime (desirable)
