Rainham Steel is looking for a Lead Maintenance Engineer to join the team!

Location: Rainham Steel Co Ltd, Althorpe Wharf, North Lincolnshire, DN15 8XF

Salary: Hourly rate from £17.50 - £20.00 p/h depending on experience

Basic working hours: 6am - 15.30pm, 42.5 hours per week

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Lead Maintenance Engineer - The Role:

  • We are seeking a proactive Lead Maintenance Engineer to lead, coordinate, and continually improve all mechanical and electrical maintenance activities across our Althorpe Wharf site.
  • The role is hands-on but also requires planning, prevention, and reliability.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring all plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.
  • Strong technical judgement, structured maintenance planning, and clear communication with operators, contractors, and management are essential.

Lead Maintenance Engineer - Responsibilities:

  • Attend urgent faults, diagnose issues, and restore equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Work closely with machine operators to understand issues, gather feedback, and prevent recurring faults.
  • Liaise with contractors, OEM engineers, and suppliers to arrange repairs, servicing, and technical support.
  • Maintain knowledge of rebar machines to ensure correct servicing and safe operations.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities follow safe systems of work, lock-out procedures, and PPE rules.
  • Maintain accurate logs of maintenance actions, inspections, and corrective measures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance equipment performance.
  • Provide guidance to operators and support staff on basic maintenance and safe machine use.
  • Report directly to the Site Manager, providing updates on equipment status, risks, and planned works.

Lead Maintenance Engineer - Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance skills.
  • Experience maintaining industrial machinery.
  • Flexible to do paid overtime when necessary.
  • Must have a good command of the English language.
  • Experience with Schnell rebar machines (desirable).
  • Previous maintenance leadership or coordination experience (desirable).
  • Experience implementing preventative maintenance systems (desirable).
  • Record of improving equipment reliability or reducing downtime (desirable).
