About Rainforest Builder
Rainforest Builder is Africa's leading forest restoration company, on a mission to restore one million hectares of degraded land to natural tropical forest. By combining world-leading science, forestry, and tech, we are able to deliver high-quality forest restoration at unprecedented scales. Our projects work to remove hundreds of millions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere, reverse declining biodiversity trends, and deliver equitable economic growth to rural communities. We currently operate four projects across three countries in West Africa, and are continuing to expand to new areas within the region.
To unlock restoration at scale, we are working to build best-in-class software that enables highly-distributed operations, manages data flows through the business, and, ultimately, delivers high-integrity data into the hands of stakeholders and other third parties.
Role Overview
As a Senior Product Engineer at Rainforest Builder, you will take full responsibility for an operational domain within our organisation. You will clarify the problem, find the solutions, and execute the delivery. We want to strip back the process that slows down dev teams, and give great people an objective and let them execute. This means we need people who are excited at the prospect of owning both product and technical implementation, and working with high agency to deliver. You will have the support of key business stakeholders, but will be expected to build relationships within the business in order to understand the problem you are solving. The ideal candidate will have both a strong technical foundation and a product mindset, and the ability to solve an issue across the full technical stack. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and looking for real-world impact: building software to enable projects that restore biodiversity, deliver equitable economic growth to rural communities, and remove greenhouse gas at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of a domain space and build solutions into our tech platform.
- Collaborate closely with business owners, employees and staff in the field to establish solutions to problems within your domain area.
- Collaborate with team members on system architecture and technical direction.
- Manage end to end delivery of software, simplifying complex problems and creating elegant solutions.
Essential Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, building and scaling full-stack applications, ideally within startups.
- Strong product mindset — focused on outcomes and user impact.
- Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working in fast-moving, ambiguous startup environments.
- Strong command of AI tools, AI assisted coding, not vibe coding.
Why join us?
- Be part of a mission-driven startup tackling one of the planet's most urgent challenges.
- Build software with tangible, real-world environmental and social impact.
- Work with a high level of autonomy.
- Work with a collaborative, ambitious team scaling forest restoration across West Africa.
