Full-Time On-site
R

Rainford Berry is recruiting a qualified Commercial Finance Director for a substantial privately owned group spanning contracting, manufacturing, logistics and warehousing. This senior leadership role suits a naturally curious finance leader who can connect finance and operations, improve management information and provide practical, forward-looking insight that drives better decisions and performance.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Finance Director and partnering with executive and operational leaders, you will lead the group’s commercial finance agenda. You will investigate how the business performs by collecting and testing data, analysing underlying drivers and converting complex findings into detailed, practical information. Your insight will support strategic and operational decisions, strengthen accountability and improve commercial, cash and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the group commercial finance strategy across contracting and CVR, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics.
  • Build and develop a high-performing commercial finance team combining financial discipline, operational understanding and curiosity.
  • Own timely weekly and monthly reporting, including executive dashboards, forecasts, commentary and recommended actions.
  • Collect, reconcile and analyse data from multiple systems, challenging gaps, inconsistencies and unsupported assumptions.
  • Translate financial and operational analysis into practical information that enables earlier, better decisions and improved performance.
  • Improve stock, inventory and working-capital management through insight on forecasts, ageing, risk, cash exposure and corrective action.
  • Analyse manufacturing output, cost, labour, stock and margin drivers to identify efficiency and profitability opportunities.
  • Embed transport, fleet-utilisation and warehousing measures that link operational activity to financial outcomes.
  • Challenge project and CVR reporting to improve forecast accuracy, risk visibility and commercial accountability.
  • Develop trusted Power BI reporting, automation and data governance, and ensure insight leads to measurable action.

About You

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, with substantial senior commercial finance leadership experience.
  • Proven success in an operationally complex organisation, influencing executive decisions and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong inventory, stock and working-capital expertise, connecting operational activity with risk, cash and profitability.
  • Experience of contracting or project environments and CVR-style reporting, plus exposure to manufacturing, logistics or warehousing.
  • A genuinely curious, investigative mindset, driven to collect reliable data, explore what sits behind the numbers and clarify commercial implications.
  • Ability to combine and rigorously analyse data from several systems, producing accurate, detailed and practical management information.
  • Sound judgement to separate insight from noise and communicate recommendations that support decisions and improve performance.
  • Hands-on Power BI and advanced Excel skills, with strong knowledge of data governance, controls and automation.
  • An influential, practical leadership style and the ability to communicate effectively with boards, executives and operational teams.
  • Leadership of ERP implementation, MRP/ERP integration or finance and systems transformation.
  • A record of improving data quality, reporting automation, forecasting and performance management.
  • Exposure to fleet economics, transport KPIs, warehouse productivity or global sourcing.
  • Experience across several group companies or business units with shared systems and overheads.
