Qualifications:
- 2 to less than 3 years of experience
- College/CEGEP education
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate
- Knowledge of licensing regulations
Responsibilities:
- Assess the children’s development to prepare tailored learning plans
- Develop and implement childcare programs supporting physical, cognitive, emotional and social development
- Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers (1-2 people)
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest
- Encourage creative expression through art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
- Observe children for signs of learning or behavioural problems, prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisors
- Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
- Discuss progress and problems at staff meetings
- Establish guidelines for behaviour and maintain a safe environment
- Plan and organize activities for school‑age children before and after school hours
- Supervise and coordinate other early childhood educators and assistants
