We have an incredible opportunity for a Workday Functional Specialist (Accounting Centre) to join our Finance team on a permanent basis, based in Darlington or London (hybrid working). Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.
We are seeking a skilled Workday Functional Specialist (Accounting Centre) to take ownership of the configuration, maintenance, and ongoing support of Workday Accounting Centre (WAC). In this role, you will ensure the accurate and efficient ingestion and transformation of financial data from source systems into Workday, enabling clean journal creation, transparency, and high-quality downstream financial reporting.
You will design and maintain data transformation rules for journal creation, enrichment, and classification, while also configuring key WAC components such as accounting rules, source mappings, validation rules, and journaling logic. A key part of the role involves troubleshooting issues with inbound data loads and journal creation, collaborating with IT teams to resolve data feed errors, and ensuring seamless, reliable data integration across the organisation. This position plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the accuracy and consistency of financial data throughout our reporting processes.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
We are looking for a proactive and detail-driven individual with experience working with Workday Financials, including hands-on expertise in Workday Accounting Centre. You will have a good understanding of core accounting principles, financial data structures, and journal entry processing, enabling you to interpret financial information accurately and confidently. With good experience in data transformation logic and financial reporting within Workday, you will be comfortable managing and optimising financial data flows, and familiarity with Workday Prism Analytics will allow you to support enhanced data insights across the organisation.
We are looking for someone who brings analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, paired with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy. You will be able to gather and interpret business requirements, translating them into well-structured and effective system configurations. Thriving in a small, collaborative environment, you will work closely with colleagues in Finance, Member Services, Data Engineering and Group Technology/IT to ensure seamless data integration and a smooth end-to-end process for all stakeholders.
Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They’re what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of ‘fair challenge’, align to the best interests of our members.
What we can offer you: A competitive salary, 28 days annual leave plus.
