The role
Within this role, you will be undertaking high-quality and insightful ESG research, risk advice, stewardship and other activities that make a decisive contribution to a range of themes and asset classes. By working with initiative and in collaboration with colleagues from across the business and at all levels, these actions help to secure members’ futures by identifying and managing the ESG risks and opportunities that matter most to financial outcomes for members. A key part of your role will be ensuring our public policy and system-wide advocacy and stewardship work is evidence-based and impactful, as well as mentoring and supporting more junior team members.
This role will likely be suitable for someone who already has an excellent track record of working in or around responsible investment. We are also keen to recruit someone with good experience and understanding of shaping or managing policy advocacy collaborations and industry campaigns on system-wide investment and ESG issues.
The person
We’re looking for you to bring hands-on experience of working directly with asset managers, asset owners and policymakers to help achieve sustainable ownership objectives. You will have a good understanding of investment practices across public and private markets, as well as of helping to design and implement engagement strategies on corporate governance and other issues. You’re adept at engaging with investor bodies and coalitions, and can demonstrate how you’ve developed collaborative relationships with senior industry stakeholders, presenting with confidence and credibility. You’re skilled in bottom-up ESG analysis and engagement, and experience in data methodologies and strategies would be desirable.
The role will require you to juggle and lead on various projects while also being on top of the necessary detail, so a calm, analytical and solutions-focused approach is essential. And with the requirement to work with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels, including external stakeholders, you need to evidence credibility and rigour alongside highly skilled written and verbal communication skills that take into account the needs and priorities of the audience to which you are speaking.
Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They’re what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of ‘fair challenge’, align to the best interests of our members.
