Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds. Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.
The role involves creating clear, effective communications and campaigns across digital and print channels. You'll turn complex pension information into content that helps members understand their pension and take the right action at the right time. Key responsibilities include:
- Create communications and campaigns across digital and print channels.
- Write and edit content that makes complex pension information clear, accessible and easy to understand.
- Develop content for key member journeys, projects and change initiatives.
- Review and improve existing communications using member insight, feedback and performance data.

- Work with subject matter experts and stakeholders to create accurate, member-focused communications.
- Support improvements to digital content and online member journeys.
- Apply Railpen's content standards, accessibility requirements and plain English principles to all communications.
- Monitor content performance and use findings to improve future communications and campaigns.
- Help build a culture of clear, effective and member-focused communication across the business.
The person should be an experienced communications and content professional with excellent writing and editing skills. You should be comfortable creating communications across a range of channels and able to turn complex information into content that's clear, accurate and easy to understand. We're looking for someone who has:
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Experience creating communications and campaigns across digital and print channels.
- The ability to explain complex information in clear, straightforward language.
- Experience working with stakeholders, subject matter experts and project teams.
- A good understanding of accessibility, plain English and content best practice.
- Experience using feedback, insight and performance data to improve communications.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A practical, collaborative approach and a focus on delivering high-quality communications.
It would be beneficial if you also have experience working within pensions, financial services or another regulated environment. Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of ‘fair challenge’, align to the best interests of our members.
What we can offer you includes a competitive salary (depending on experience), 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, a generous annual bonus plan, membership of the Railways Pension Scheme, health & wellbeing benefits, and support for hybrid and flexible working.
