We have an exciting opportunity for a Real Estate Asset Manager to join on a permanent basis in a hybrid role based in London.

Who we are

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around ÂŁ34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds. Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.

The role

The Real Estate Asset Manager supports the Real Assets function, which researches, selects, and manages investment strategies across property, private markets, and less‐liquid public markets. This position is specifically focused on residential property assets within the Long‐term Income Fund (LTIF). In this role, you will work closely with Investment and Portfolio Managers to oversee the residential ground rent portfolio within the broader LTIF.

A significant part of the role involves managing complex high‐rise residential remediation projects. This includes coordinating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders—including project managers, asset managers, architects, contractors and Homes England who administer the governments Building Safety Fund—to ensure projects achieve their intended goals and are delivered effectively. In addition, a key objective is to help deliver the strategic goal of reducing exposure while maximising value. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.

The person

We’re looking for an experienced real estate professional who brings together significant surveying expertise with hands‐on residential remediation experience and oversight of grant funding applications with Homes England. You’ll play a pivotal role in keeping major projects moving in the right direction—ensuring they stay on budget, on schedule, and delivered to the highest standard. To succeed, you’ll have a proven track record managing large‐scale, complex residential developments and the confidence to guide projects through to completion. You’ll also contribute directly to our long‐term strategic objectives, including reducing exposure while maximising value across the portfolio. A good understanding of asset management within a Long‐Term Income Fund (LTIF) environment will enable you to make informed, impactful decisions that support our goals.

We’re looking for a proactive self‐starter who brings energy, initiative, and proven experience in both residential management and project management. You’ll thrive on building trusted relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and you’ll have the confidence to negotiate and offer constructive challenge where it adds value. Clear, effective communication is essential—ensuring everyone feels informed, involved, and part of the journey. You’ll be someone who can deliver against deadlines with minimal supervision and juggle multiple complex projects with ease.

Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They’re what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of 'fair challenge', align to the best interests of our members.
