We're looking for a dynamic self-starter to play a pivotal role in supporting significant change programmes across our organisation.

This is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract based in London with hybrid working.

The role

We're looking for a dynamic Internal Communications Manager to shape and share the stories behind our AI@Railpen initiative, developing and delivering creative strategies and compelling content that keep audiences engaged and informed about the exciting times ahead.

  • Develop and deliver the communication and engagement strategy for AI, supporting one of our most significant transformation programmes.
  • Design and deliver engaging communication campaigns that build awareness, confidence and adoption of AI across the organisation.
  • Work closely with programme leads, technology specialists and communications colleagues to create clear, consistent and aligned messaging.
  • Translate complex technology, governance and process topics into clear, practical communications for different audiences.
  • Develop communication plans that support different phases of change and adoption.
  • Partner with project teams to implement communication and engagement activities during key programme milestones.
  • Use insight, feedback and data to measure effectiveness, understand colleague perspectives and continually improve communication approaches.
  • Provide trusted advice and strategic communications support to programme leaders and senior stakeholders.
  • Work with the wider Communications Team to identify opportunities to connect stories, promote successes and ensure messaging remains aligned to our purpose, values and operating strategy.

The person

We're looking for a communications professional who is passionate about helping people navigate change and excited by the potential of AI to enhance the way organisations work.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring

  • Significant communications experience within a large, complex organisation, ideally supporting transformation, technology or culture change initiatives.
  • A proven track record of delivering successful transformation, change or employee engagement communications programmes.
  • Experience leading communication campaigns that drive awareness, understanding and behavioural change.
  • The ability to turn complex technical or business topics into clear, engaging and practical messages.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise and influence senior leaders.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Experience using data, feedback and measurable outcomes to evaluate and improve communication effectiveness.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A collaborative and empathetic approach, recognising the importance of the people side of change.
  • A strong sense of ownership, integrity and personal accountability, balanced with a team‑first mindset.

For this role specifically, you'll also have

  • A genuine enthusiasm for the positive impact AI can have in the workplace.
  • Curiosity about AI and digital transformation, with the confidence to engage credibly with technical specialists.
  • The ability to translate complex AI concepts into meaningful, colleague‑focused communications.
  • Experience creating and delivering AI‑related communication and engagement campaigns, or similar technology adoption initiatives.
