We have an exciting opportunity for a Frontend Developer to join our Web Team on a permanent basis, based in Darlington (hybrid working).

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around ÂŁ34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Schemeâone of the UKâs largest and longestâestablished pension funds. The role
We are looking for a Frontend Developer to help design, build, and optimise intuitive, highâperformance user interfaces across our digital products. Your work will directly enhance how our members selfâserve and manage their pension accounts, ensuring a seamless, accessible and userâfocused experience. In this role, you will work closely with designers, backend developers and product owners to deliver new features and enhancements. You will develop responsive and accessible interfaces, write clean and secure code, and contribute throughout the delivery lifecycleâfrom development and testing through to deployment and BAU improvements. You will also participate in code reviews, support strategic technical decisions, and ensure our applications meet modern standards for usability, security, and performance.

The person
We are looking for someone with experience in frontend development, confident in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and modern UI frameworks. You will have handsâon experience integrating with backend services, working with RESTful APIs, and using tools such as Git, Bootstrap and Vue. You will bring an understanding of responsive design, crossâbrowser compatibility, and secure development practices, along with the ability to debug, troubleshoot and optimise complex interfaces. Experience with agile delivery, userâcentred design principles, and creating clear documentation is important. You will thrive in a collaborative, crossâfunctional team environment, be an effective communicator, able to explain technical concepts in a clear, accessible way, and comfortable presenting new features to stakeholders. Attention to detail, problemâsolving capability and a passion for creating exceptional user experiences are essential. Our values of integrity, community and alignment guide how we work.
