Working within Aureos’ Rail Business Unit, and forming a part of the Commercial team, the Quantity Surveyor plays an integral part in delivering exceptional commercial results. Core responsibilities encompass project delivery, commercial reporting and maximising profit. Aureos Rail work collaboratively with our customers to deliver critical national infrastructure projects across the UK’s rail network.

With sustainable growth in mind, our Quantity Surveyor is responsible for assisting the commercial team in completing and maintaining well organised records, contributing to the timely production of applications for payment and accurate project reporting, and independently able to run minor works projects and frameworks.

Primary tasks and duties

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will assist the commercial team in providing support to the contract delivery team to ensure the profitability, cash management, cost control and accurate reporting of all schemes. Your role will require you to:

  • Capably submit applications and control credit processes
  • Understanding of income forecast and pricing of variations
  • Understanding of the change control system
  • Understanding of project risk
  • Production of cost value reconciliation (CVRs) with support
  • Produce cost to complete with support
  • Understanding the production of forecasting data
  • Understanding the costing process
  • Understanding the management of the full sub-contract cycle and input into sub-contract documentation.
  • Assisting with weekly cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams.
  • Upload documentation as and when necessary, in line with business requirements.
  • Review weekly site records including allocation sheets and site diaries.
  • Attend project progress meetings.
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial performance reports.
  • Gain experience outside of the commercial function to better understand the role of the business and the quantity surveyor within the business.

  • Working with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement.

  • Other tasks appropriate to the role of Trainee Quantity Surveyor, as identified by the Quantity Surveyor/Managing Surveyor

Targets for the Quantity Surveyor will be set and reviewed on a 6 monthly basis, aligned with the responsibilities and behaviours listed within this job description.
