We are recruiting a Pre-Sales Engineer on behalf of a growing and well-organised AV business known for its strong team culture and commitment to delivering high-quality, well-engineered solutions. This role combines technical expertise, commercial awareness, and customer engagement, supporting the sales process by translating client requirements into clear, cost-effective, and deliverable AV solutions. The role involves extensive national travel for client meetings, site surveys, and project support. When not on the road, you will be expected to work from the Sheffield office approximately three days per week, collaborating closely with internal teams.
The Role:
Working closely with the Business Development, Design, and Engineering teams, you will act as the technical authority during the pre-sales lifecycle. You will play a key role in supporting complex bids and opportunities, ensuring that proposed solutions are robust, clearly defined, commercially viable, and ready to be delivered right first time. The position also helps ensure a smooth transition from sale through to project delivery. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys combining technical design, client engagement, and commercial thinking.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Business Development, Design, and Engineering teams to shape practical AV solutions that meet client needs and project budgets
- Attend customer sites to gather technical requirements and assess installation environments
- Prepare solution documentation including equipment lists, technical scopes, and supporting proposal details
- Contribute technical expertise to bids, tenders, and commercial proposals
- Review project drawings and specifications to ensure AV requirements are properly integrated
- Keep opportunity, quotation, and project information updated within internal CRM systems
- Provide technical support during the sales process, advising on system design and equipment selection
- Work closely with Engineering teams to ensure a smooth handover once projects move into delivery
- Keep up to date with new AV technologies, products, and industry best practices
The Person:
We are looking for someone who combines strong AV technical knowledge with a commercial mindset and enjoys working closely with both customers and internal teams to develop practical solutions. You may currently be working in pre-sales, AV engineering, system design, or a technical sales role, and be looking for an opportunity to take on more responsibility within the solution design and sales process. You should have a solid understanding of professional AV systems, including areas such as audio and video distribution, control systems, DSP, and display technologies. Experience developing technical proposals, equipment lists, and solution pricing would be highly beneficial. The role requires someone who can communicate confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping customers understand proposed solutions while ensuring internal teams have the information needed to deliver projects successfully. You will need to be well organised, detail-focused, and comfortable managing multiple opportunities at different stages, while working collaboratively with sales, design, and engineering colleagues. Experience with AV design tools such as AutoCAD or Visio would be advantageous, and AVIXA CTS certification (or willingness to work towards it) is desirable. A full UK driving licence is required due to the national travel involved in the role.
Additional Information:
- Hybrid role with national travel required
- Working from the Sheffield office approximately three days per week when not travelling
- Collaborative and supportive internal engineering and design teams
- Opportunity to work on complex AV solutions and high-profile projects
- Growing business offering long-term career development
Why Apply?
This is an excellent opportunity for an AV technical professional looking to move into or develop further within pre-sales engineering. You will play a key role in shaping solutions from the earliest stages of customer engagement, working closely with commercial and technical teams to ensure projects are designed correctly from day one.
