About the team
This is a vitally important Policy Advisor role to ensure that we support non‑serving spouses in line with the MOD Families Strategy. As subject lead in the field of Spousal Employment and Overseas Support, you will be providing advice on employment opportunities as well as engaging with Armed Forces Covenant Champions to ensure that the impact of service life is understood. As a confident speaker and networker you will be instrumental in advocating for change at Government level to overcome the challenges with overseas employment following Brexit and the loss of freedom of movement. Working closely with the COBSEO and MOD Families Team, you will ensure the voice of the non‑serving individual is appropriately represented. You will be working with a team of other specialists, all of whom help and support each other. We are based at offices at RAF Wittering and this role is suitable for hybrid working, with regular attendance at our offices in Wittering.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice on employment opportunities for non‑serving spouses.
- Engage with Armed Forces Covenant Champions.
- Advocate for policy change at Government level.
- Liaise with employment agencies, overseas stakeholders, and other relevant groups.
- Proactively identify, address, and report on issues affecting non‑serving spouses.
- Deliver timely feedback to RAF personnel and families on case progress.
- Conduct research, develop written content and resources, and monitor and report on policy delivery.
Qualifications
- Understanding and empathy of the service lifestyle; confident and persuasive communicator; proactive problem‑solver.
- Demonstrated experience in developing policy to cause positive change or extensive experience advocating for others with multiple stakeholder groups.
- Previous research and reporting experience required.
- A UK driving licence is essential for representing the Federation at events.
