About us
The RAF (Royal Air Forces) Association has a clear objective: to help sustain a resilient and empowered RAF community, including serving personnel, RAF veterans and their families. Through our sector‑leading services, we offer friendship to the isolated and lonely, sheltered housing for those who want to remain proudly independent and childcare to serving personnel on RAF stations. We work together to make sure no one is ever left behind.
About the role
Rothbury House is a beautiful Victorian building situated at the west end of Rothbury, overlooking the Coquet Valley in Northumberland. With an estimated 40% of veterans living alone, we know that isolation and loneliness is a huge problem. Rothbury House offers an opportunity for our tenants to relive the camaraderie of their time in the RAF as well as supporting and promoting their independent living. We are looking for an additional Cook to prepare and cook for up to 25 tenants. We provide a continental breakfast and a 2‑course home‑cooked lunch, with a final light tea to round off the day. Particular favourites include casseroles, pies, salads and of course lots of cakes and puddings! Our cooks prepare, cook and present meals and refreshments that provide a balanced and wholesome diet to meet the varying nutritional requirements and preferences of our tenants and visitors.
About you
You will have a minimum of one year’ cooking experience involving preparation, cooking and presentation of high quality meals. An up to date knowledge of food hygiene procedures, record keeping, temperature recording etc is essential for this role along with an up to date Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate (Level 3 qualification is highly desirable). You will be fully conversant with responsibilities held under the HASAW and Food Safety Act as well as an understanding of nutritional requirements for people with medical conditions. Our cooks interact with our tenants on a daily basis so if you have a cheerful personality, engaging manner and a sense of humour then please do consider applying to join our team.
