What we’re looking for: We are looking for a strategic and hands‑on part‑time Finance Director to lead our financial operations. This role requires someone with experience in an R&D, tech, or product manufacturing company who can provide strategic advice and KPI reports for board review. You will oversee our financial health, from cashflow forecasting to analysing project profitability and sensitivities. - Strategic Planning & Commercial Accounting: Help define the annual budget and provide regular reports against this. Manage project cost accounting and reporting, including GM, NM, and COGS. Analyse project profitability and sensitivities, which includes assigning employee time against projects. Define direct, indirect, and overhead rates to support the business development and commercial functions. Provide approval for high value purchases, considering cash flow and project profitability.
- Reporting & Compliance: Prepare annual accounts and accounts for IAR approval. Produce board reports, shareholder financial reports, and monthly investor updates. Oversee VAT claims and monthly submissions to external payroll accountants.
- Funding & Capital: Manage R&D tax credit claims and grant claim financial submissions. Provide experience with other capital options, such as debt financing. Proactively seek ways to leverage finances efficiently.
- Operational Finance: Oversee and manage third party bookkeeping support. Oversee finance systems and tools. Implement processes for capturing and categorising spends robustly. Maintain the asset register and depreciation strategy. Work with external accountant. Leverage knowledge of employee benefits schemes.
