What we are looking for:
Rabobank is seeking an exceptional and highly experienced Head of Risk Management Global Capital Markets, to provide independent oversight of underwriting activity across both loan and bond markets, including bridge financings. In this role, you will apply deep expertise and seasoned judgement to the evaluation of transaction structures, evolving market dynamics, and execution risks. As Chair of the Underwriting Committee, you will play a critical role in shaping balanced, transparent, and well-governed decisions. You will be accountable for ensuring adherence to the Bank's defined risk appetite and governance standards, enabling outcomes that are both disciplined and commercially astute. Success in this position will be underpinned by proactive engagement and a strong, trusted partnership with senior Capital Markets leadership, supporting the effective origination and execution of strategically significant transactions.
The Role & the Area:
The Head of Risk Management Global Capital Markets serves on the management team of Risk Management Financial Markets—a global function operating across six regions of Rabobank’s network. The department safeguards earnings stability through independent risk assessment, limits oversight, and strategic advisory. Its primary focus is client trading activities within Markets, alongside regional risk management support for Rabobank’s Treasury operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing independent reviews of loan and bond underwriting proposals, including bridge and event-driven financings and formulating clear, well-reasoned risk opinions.
- Chairing the Underwriting Committees, leading discussions and driving robust risk challenge to ensure high-quality decision-making through balanced perspectives and fact-based debates.
- Independently following and assessing market developments and forming your own judgement on market trends that might impact the taking of various related risks. Where relevant reporting on them to senior management and the Risk Committees.
- Being the centre of expertise for the Capital Markets underwriting activities and related risks, thereby closely cooperating with the Regional Heads of Risk Management Financial Markets, the other members of the management team of Risk Management Financial Markets and the wider Risk Management department.
- Driving the development, approval and application of the risk appetite, risk reporting and risk governance framework.
- Providing expert advice on amendments to policies, procedures and methodologies.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Demonstrable experience in capital markets, gained within a first-line or risk management capacity.
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to distil complexity and form well-founded judgments.
- Proven leadership skills, with a track record of operating effectively within a matrixed environment.
- A structured and pragmatic approach to problem-solving, coupled with sound commercial insight.
- Highly refined collaboration skills, building trusted partnerships across senior stakeholder groups.
- The confidence and clarity to make balanced, well-reasoned decisions in a dynamic environment.
