One of our leading hedge fund clients are seeking a talented and motivated Systems Engineer to join their London office.

Their mission is to expand and build out the global on-premise datacenters by implementing compute, storage, and network infrastructure to deliver a private cloud platform that powers all of their workloads. If you are passionate about infrastructure and eager to contribute to these initiatives, then this could be the role for you!

What work will the successful candidate do in the first 3 to 6 Months:

  • Provision and configuration of physical and virtual servers, with occasional data centre visits to facilitate this.
  • Manage virtual infrastructure on a hypervisor, occasional troubleshooting of virtualisation stack.
  • Linux and Windows systems administration using automation tools – and manually when and if required.
  • Review, and via automation maintain, records on hardware configuration.
  • Script via Infra-as-Code service configuration and deployment – load balancers, high availability, databases, and other middleware such as queue managers, container orchestrators, etc…
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose misbehaving systems at an application, OS, and virtual or physical hardware level.
  • Demonstrate (or acquire) basic understanding of networks to troubleshoot network-related issues.
  • Configure system and service monitoring and alerting using Prometheus tooling.

Requirements:

  • A seasoned systems engineer who has had experience with or exposure to:
  • Infra-as-Code – ideally with the HashiCorp stack (Vault, Consul, Nomad, Terraform and/or Packer).
  • Automation tools – Puppet, Ansible.
  • Some Windows services administration experience (Active Directory etc..).
  • Production use of Containers, KVM, LXC, libvirt, Proxmox technologies/products in the virtualisation stack.
  • Well-established high-availability techniques such as Keepalived and HAProxy.
  • Git workflow (Gitlab, Github, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Strong automation skills and a deep understanding of computer hardware, networks, and network equipment would be considered as a bonus.
