A leading proprietary trading firm based in the heart of London, specialising in high-performance, low-latency trading strategies across global markets, is looking to hire a hands-on Head of Technical Operations to lead and scale the technology infrastructure as they enter the next phase of growth.
Role Overview
As the Head of Technical Operations, you will oversee the firm’s core technology infrastructure, ensuring the systems are secure, resilient, and aligned with business needs. You’ll lead a team of engineers and collaborate closely with development, trading, and compliance teams to maintain operational excellence and support the trading environment 24/7.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Technical Operations team, including system administrators, DevOps engineers, and IT support.
- Own the availability, performance, and scalability of all production systems, including low-latency trading infrastructure.
- Design and enforce processes for incident response, change management, and monitoring.
- Oversee deployment pipelines, automation tools, and configuration management.
- Ensure robust disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
- Maintain and enhance the firm’s cybersecurity posture in collaboration with security experts.
- Partner with stakeholders across trading and technology to deliver on strategic infrastructure initiatives.
- Vendor management, licensing, and cost optimisation of technology resources.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience leading technical operations, infrastructure, or DevOps teams in a high-availability, high-throughput environment — preferably within financial services or trading.
- Deep understanding of Linux systems, networking, and distributed systems at scale.
- Strong experience with infrastructure automation (Ansible, Terraform, etc.), monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with market data feeds, co-location, and low-latency network optimisation is highly desirable.
- Experience with hybrid cloud/on-prem environments and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
- A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to operate under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
