Overview
Have you got what it takes to help National Trust Cymru make its voice heard? We’re searching for an external affairs professional to join our team and play a part in making a difference every day. You’ll work with colleagues across Wales to build strong external relationships with elected representatives and key stakeholders. You’ll help to shape our policy and advocacy work, organise flagship events, and provide external affairs advice and support to our property and specialist delivery teams. This is an internal secondment opportunity due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 10 months. 30 hours per week, fixed-term maternity cover £36,621 pro rata / £29,296.80. Virtual interviews are expected to take place on 11th and 14th May.

Working as part of the external affairs team, this role is instrumental in shaping how National Trust Cymru is seen in Wales and the wider world. You’ll join a collaborative, energised and supportive team who work at pace to make a real impact and difference for nature, beauty and history in Wales. This role can be based from any of our office hubs in Wales. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. Due to the nature of the role, some travel within Wales will be required.
What you’ll be doing
Collaboration will be key, you’ll work with colleagues across the Trust to help build strong relationships with politicians, key stakeholders and decision makers in Wales. This will include supporting colleagues with stakeholder engagement, monitoring and advising on the external environment, and helping to promote understanding of the Trust and our cause to external audiences. You’ll be highly organised and an experienced communicator with the ability to work at pace. You’ll be responsible for developing tailored advocacy plans with a focus on nature and growing support – from producing policy briefings, contributing to external consultations and coordinating engagement, to delivering events such as our presence at party conferences, the Royal Welsh Show and National Eisteddfod.
