We are looking for a Technical Platform Manager to join the software engineering function in our thriving vehicle telematics business. This role offers a unique blend of technical and people leadership in a fast-growing sector, with outstanding career development opportunities.
Specifically you will be responsible for managing a talented team of software developers focused on our world-leading telematics platform, and for the planning, coordination and implementation of new and existing features. Technical analysis, development, projects, and support are the key to everything we do to deliver success and innovation at Radius. Our IT teams work using both agile and waterfall project methodologies and are constantly reviewing, adopting and using new technologies as well as assessing new approaches to solving the varied, complex and dynamic problems we face in our business.
You will be expected to develop an excellent understanding of the complex architecture and functionality of our IT landscape to assess change impact, direct development activity and advise on business and technical initiatives. The role reports directly to our Head of Engineering and is located at our Telematics head office at Arden Square, Crewe.
What you'll be doing...
- Working with business stakeholders to proactively identify new business opportunities and introduce new technologies.
- Working with the Head of Engineering, Director of Product and development leads to analyse projects and ad-hoc change requests prior to scheduling.
- Managing the scheduling and delivery of development tasks, ensuring product owners, developers and IT management are aware of priorities and issues.
- Assisting with task estimation and tracking project progress across NodeJS, Typescript and C# based application pipelines, providing regular updates to the Head of Engineering.
- Managing a growing team of developers, providing day-to-day leadership and technical support both in person and remotely, depending on the circumstances.
- Proactively ensuring the health of the platform, identifying and addressing technical debt.
- Monitoring and managing key performance indicators, ensuring team delivery excellence and addressing any issues effectively.
- Line management, including setting up team/individual objectives, regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and developing PDPs for career progression of your direct reports.
- Acting as a point of escalation for application-level issues, with some out of hours support required when necessary.
- Working with architects to define, improve and evolve the architecture of the platform.
- Supporting the Head of Engineering in assessing, defining and rolling out of development practices/processes aligned with industry best practice, ensuring their adherence enabling the delivery of efficient change.
- Managing a South African based support and quality assurance team to maintain and prioritise work between direct and reseller customers.
What we're looking for...
- Experience of building and managing high performing development teams.
- A software development background with experience of one or more of our core stack - NodeJS, Typescript, C# - and modern web UI frameworks.
- Experience building and managing SaaS platforms at scale on containerised cloud platforms, preferably AWS, leveraging CI/CD and DevOps practices to deliver quality with pace.
- Experience of managing a development pipeline and allocating development tasks.
- The ability to understand complex business processes and to understand how systems have been architected to support these processes in order that system change requests can be assessed.
- The ability to communicate development progress and set clear stakeholder expectations.
- The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and influence strategic delivery.
- A pragmatic approach with focus on business delivery.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- A professional approach and an understanding of business ethics.
