As Development Manager, you will lead a software engineering team delivering a world-leading telematics platform. You will balance hands-on development oversight with people leadership in a fast-growing sector, coordinating new features and enhancements. You’ll work with stakeholders to identify opportunities, manage delivery pipelines, and shape the platform’s architecture and practices. Your role helps drive innovation, platform health, and scalable delivery across agile and waterfall projects. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities and introduce new technologies
- Analyse projects and change requests with leadership to plan delivery
- Schedule and deliver development tasks, communicate priorities to teams and IT management
- Oversee NodeJS, Typescript and C# pipelines, updating the Head of Engineering on progress
- Lead a growing development team with on-site and remote support
- Maintain platform health and address technical debt
- Monitor KPIs, ensure delivery quality, and resolve issues
- Line management: set objectives, conduct 1:1s and performance reviews, develop PDPs
- Act as escalation point for application issues; occasional out-of-hours support
- Work with architects to evolve the platform architecture
- Support roll-out of development practices/processes aligned with industry best practice
- Manage a South Africa-based support and QA team to balance direct and reseller work
Key requirements
- Experience building and leading high-performing development teams
- Background in NodeJS, Typescript, or C# with modern web UI frameworks
- Experience building SaaS platforms at scale on containerised cloud platforms (preferably AWS) with CI/CD and DevOps
- Ability to manage a development pipeline and allocate tasks
- Ability to understand complex business processes and system architecture to assess change requests
- Strong communication of progress and stakeholder expectations
- Proven ability to influence delivery through rapport and strategic thinking
