Main duties of the job
Complete the Therapeutic Radiographer Degree Apprenticeship, combining academic study with clinical training and competency development.
Work under the supervision of registered Therapeutic Radiographers to provide safe, effective and compassionate patient care.
Support the planning and delivery of radiotherapy treatments in line with departmental policies and professional standards.
Communicate effectively with patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team.
Provide information and support to patients throughout their treatment pathway.
Assist in confirming patient consent and maintaining patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
Ensure correct patient identification and safe treatment delivery in accordance with radiation safety requirements.
Maintain accurate patient records using departmental and hospital information systems.
Participate in quality assurance activities and the safe operation of radiotherapy equipment.
Report incidents, risks and equipment faults promptly to supervising staff.
Contribute to audit, service improvement and quality initiatives within the department.
Attend university teaching, departmental training and continuing professional development activities.
Work flexibly across clinical areas to support service delivery.
Support the learning and development of colleagues and students where appropriate.

Job responsibilities
Our apprentice opportunities are for individuals who are enthusiastic, caring and compassionate and have the drive and ambition to complete a degree apprenticeship to become a registered Therapeutic Radiographer. We are keen to develop these roles and talent within Somerset.

Apprentices will be workplace based for four days (30 hours) per week and 1 day (7.5 hours) will be protected study time -- either locally or at the associated Higher Education Institution (HEI). Attendance of training at the associated HEI is essential and annual leave must be arranged outside these sessions.

This is a 3-year course, you must meet the eligibility and enrolment criteria to enrol on the Apprenticeship, be a resident of the UK and held the right to remain / work in the UK for the previous 3 years and any visa held must exceed the length of the course including the EPA allowance. You cannot renew your visa mid course.

To work within the Radiotherapy department under the Therapeutic Radiographer Apprenticeship programme.
Work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner
As part of the multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will fulfil a key role in providing radiotherapy, care and support to individuals as specified in standard radiotherapy protocols.
The post holder will fulfil all tasks and work as part of a team responsible for providing an efficient service in the Radiotherapy Department. It may be necessary to attend other Radiotherapy Departments to gain sufficient experience in some treatments.

Attend mandatory academic training for the Therapeutic Radiographer Apprenticeship programme at the partner university.
Make a commitment to study both within working hours and at home during the duration of the apprenticeship course.
Attend virtual tutorials and webinars and complete all e-learning as instructed by the partner university.
Attend tutorials, teaching and CPD events arranged by the Radiotherapy Department as instructed by the lead Practice Educator.
Complete and maintain effective patient records accurately respecting confidentiality issues and in line with the Trust's confidentiality and Information Governance requirements
Qualifications
- Level 3 qualifications or equivalent to meet HEI entry requirements
- BBC 112 UCAS points
- 12 level 3 credits at Merit or above in an access to science/healthcare
- 60 credits at 60% or above in a relevant foundation degree
- GCSE English and Maths (4 or above) or equivalent

- Knowledge of relevant national standards, e.g. IR(ME)R 2017, IRR 2017 and associated codes of practice
- IV cannulation competency
Experience
- Knowledge / understanding of promoting patient's independence
- Ability to work under pressure and with flexibility
- Experience of working within a Radiotherapy Department
- Experience of working directly with patients providing care or treatment interventions
