The Strategic Buyer is responsible for establishing long‑term purchase orders and contracts in SAP, approving purchase orders below a given threshold, and managing overall vendor communication, negotiation, and mitigation of price increase requests.
Responsibilities
- Establish long‑term purchase orders and contracts in SAP
- Approve purchase orders below a given threshold
- Maintain up‑to‑date purchasing information records
- Manage source lists in accordance with commodity strategy and supplier quality guidance
- Timely upkeep of vendor master data to enable and streamline tactical PO placement
- Negotiate and mitigate price increase requests
- Maintain favourable payment terms
- Participate in supplier visits and meetings as required
- Engage in supplier rationalization, development and transition (outsourcing, insourcing, vendor to vendor)
- Identify, execute, and sustain projects in support of the global commodity strategy
- Add and maintain projects in the iSource Project Management Tool
- Pursue Pall industrial sourcing KPI targets for PPC, PPV, DPO, VAVE, OTD, e‑Auctions, RFQs, and PVO
- Support the ongoing sourcing visual management process to meet project timelines and maintain cross‑functional accountability
- Support, monitor, and mentor site materials team members
- Work in accordance with escalation procedures to mitigate disruptive material shortages
- Ensure purchasing policies and strategies are understood and implemented
- Partner with relevant site‑level stakeholders (Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, etc.) to facilitate project completion
- Interface with Materials Team to align manufacturing site inputs and requirements with commodity strategy
Qualifications
- Educated to A‑level standard
- Professional qualification such as CIPS, or equivalent experience in a similar role
- Experience with MRP systems such as SAP
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of supplier databases
- Experience in aerospace and/or manufacturing site settings (advantageous)
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally up to once per month as required
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
