SPX Radiodetection is a global leader in the design and development of advanced utility locating and test equipment. We are now looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Engineering team and play a key role in delivering the next generation of innovative products to market. This is a critical replacement hire, offering the opportunity to take ownership of high-impact product development projects within a globally connected business.
The Role
Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of new and existing product development projects – from concept through to release and post-launch support. Your first major focus will be leading the UI development of new products across the portfolio, working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and commercial teams.
This role involves:
- Delivering complex hardware/NPD projects within a structured stage-gate framework
- Managing multiple projects with budgets between £1m–£3m (including CAPEX)
- Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Management, Purchasing, Sales and Manufacturing
- Weekly engagement with our manufacturing partner
- Collaboration with suppliers and colleagues at other sites
- Driving clear governance, risk management and change control
- Contributing to ongoing improvements within the PMO framework
You will operate across both technical and commercial stakeholders, primarily within Engineering, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and on budget.
What Success Looks Like
Within 6–12 months you will have:
- Successfully delivered new UI programmes across key product lines
- Built strong working relationships across Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing and Supply Chain
- Demonstrated strong budget ownership and cost control
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a technically grounded Project Manager who understands engineering environments and can confidently engage at all levels.
Essential:
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience within hardware/new product development environments
- Exposure to firmware development and/or manufacturing engineering
- Proven experience managing budgets (£1m–£3m)
- Strong change control and cost management capability
- Experience using Jira and Confluence (able to navigate boards and extract key information)
- Excellent stakeholder management skills – able to influence both up and down
- Experience working with globally dispersed teams and being able to travel for work
