Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Project Manager responsible for project scopes within Repository Capping. In this role you will oversee the full lifecycle of Repository Capping – construction of an engineered earthworks cap over the trenches and vaults containing low level waste, with particular focus on construction execution, change and risk management, internal and external reporting, and project close out. The scope of works will include management of civil engineering contractors ensuring high quality work is delivered in line with NWS processes and procedures. The quality of the cap is of utmost importance, with work being overseen by Independent Construction Quality Assurance engineers and inspectors. The role will be to manage the execution of the designed works within the LLWR site, in accordance with the contracted Scope of Work and NWS processes and procedures, to enable successful completion to time and budget. This will require close liaison and coordination with the Repository Vaults and the NWS SPM for Design. The successful candidate will report to the Repository Capping Senior Project Manager for Construction (SPMC). Your direct reports will include Project Engineers and a Construction Coordinator. Significant contributions to the production of work Scope and other procurement documents for successive construction phases. Projects will be delivered and expedited in accordance with NWS Project Management Procedures which includes understanding and contribution to Business Cases, Lifetime Plan Scope and Detailed Volumes / Monitoring of spoil and aggregates, Project Execution Plans, Quality Plans, Risk Registers, Sourcing strategies, etc. You must have a heavy civils background to be considered for this role. Civil construction projects that are ideally £30-100 million in size & relevant scope. The successful candidate will ideally have highways work, land fill regs, and major earthworks (new build and/or highways). It is preferred that this experience comes from a tier one contractor. Responsibilities Oversight of contractor to ensure compliance with the CDM Regulations Maintenance of a safe working environment Review and comment on the contractor’s construction proposals including sequencing, methodology, carbon management, temporary works, health and safety risk and general risk management and change and risk management, reporting internally and externally, and project close out. Monitoring and holding the contractor to account in delivery of the scope of work, design, specification, and the agreed Quality Plans. Monitoring the progress of the contractor relative to their Clause 31 and 32 programmes and holding the contractor to account. Contribution to the Scope of Work and other tender documents for successive contract packages. Oversee and manage the contractor and supply chain in the delivery of capping construction, working with the Project Quantity Surveyor in administration of the contract. Liaise and coordinate with the Vaults and LMS team who will be delivering the vaults in parallel with the capping. Ensure that the Quality Assurance Lifetime Records are completed contemporaneously. Reporting to the SPMC, plan and oversee work packages within the project and proactively monitor progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective action and change requests as appropriate. Ensure proper planning and baseline management. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential: Exhibits demonstrable leadership behaviours in line with Nuclear Waste Services mission. Experience in active involvement in health and safety including inspections, monitoring, reporting, and production of risk assessments. Experience in project management and delivery including planning works and schedule/programme management. Experience in ensuring technical delivery and reporting of construction work scope to agreed project requirements, quality, cost, and schedule. Experience in ensuring technical, safety, and construction risks are identified and managed. Ensuring SQEP resources are deployed to perform discipline work in a timely manner. Experience in working with supply chain contractors. At least 5 years relevant experience managing work in a large civil construction environment with a value of £10 million + Project. Civil Engineering construction management knowledge and experience in earthworks, drainage, and pavement activities. NEBOSH, or SMSTS, or IOSH. Desirable: Degree educated in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Current Registration with Professional body; ICE and/or APM preferred. Over 5 years relevant experience managing work in a large civil construction environment with a value of £30-100 million Projects. Experience in and knowledge of BIM.
