A leading company in partitioning solutions is seeking an experienced Design Manager to oversee the design team in Burgess Hill. The role involves producing technical documentation, managing workloads, and ensuring compliance with client requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a small department of Design Technicians to deliver accurate and timely design and technical documentation to our regional offices to support with projects.

Purpose

  • Responsible for the line management of the Planet Design Team, and for ensuring the accurate and on-time production of design and technical documentation.
  • Use specialist computer software to produce plans and technical drawings for a range of products and components (2D and 3D).
  • Manage current workloads, capacity and resource forecasting.
  • Where required assist in the continuing improvement of group CAD blocks and products.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effective team management, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management and people development.
  • Oversee and manage timescales against project requests to achieve deadlines.
  • Use specialist computer software to produce plans and technical drawings for the project.
  • Ensure buildability, safety and access are considered when producing designs.
  • Liaise with internal and external departments to ensure client requirements are fully understood and compliant.
  • Ensure all plans and drawings are in line with the specification, acoustic and fire requirements and with the contract documents.
  • Ensure all design programmes and plans meet contract manufacturing requirements.
  • Ensure client drawing protocol is complied with where applicable.
  • Complete drawing registers.
  • Ensure all drawings and plans are thoroughly checked prior to submission.
  • Where required liaise with engineers, suppliers and produce fabrication drawings.
  • Where required liaise with the site installation team.
  • Where required assist with sample and technical submissions.
  • Follow design processes and update project files.
  • Ensure knowledge and awareness of your roles and responsibilities under the Company’s integrated management systems in relation to Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental.
  • Ensure knowledge and understanding of the Company’s policies and procedures in relation to data protection legislation.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience of working in a design role within the glazed partitioning environment.
  • Previous experience of people management.
  • Excellent knowledge of design software.
  • Ability to convert verbal and written information into 2D and 3D drawings with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to come up with practical solutions.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage and prioritise own workload and that of others to ensure deadlines are effectively met.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate in a professional and timely way.
  • Good colour vision.
  • Efficient and well organised.
  • Positive and proactive attitude with the ability to use initiative and motivate others.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to own personal development within the role.
  • A keen interest in the business and progression of the division.

Qualifications

Working Hours & Environment

  • 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Friday, with a one-hour lunch break each day.
  • Office Based - Radii Planet House, Edward Way, Burgess Hill, West Sussex, RH15 9TZ

Salary and Benefits

  • Discretionary Bonus Scheme.
  • Option to join Private Medical Scheme following successful completion of probationary period.

  • Standard annual leave when joining of 20 days (plus eight UK public holidays).
  • Increasing to 21 days following successful completion of probationary period.
