Are you an experienced Childcare Solicitor with a passion for safeguarding children and delivering high-quality legal services? Join our Childcare Legal Team in Worcester to lead on complex childcare matters, advocate in Family Courts, and support strategic improvements across Children’s Services.

About the Role

You will provide specialist legal advice and representation across Child Protection, Education-related matters, and Public Law. This is a hands-on role where you will manage a complex caseload, deliver robust advocacy, and ensure compliance with statutory 26-week timescales for care proceedings. You will also contribute to the development of efficient, cost-effective legal services and support continuous improvement across the directorate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and conduct complex childcare cases including DOL/LPS and adoption.
  • Provide high-quality legal advice on child protection, education and local government law.
  • Advocate in Family Court, High Court, County Court and tribunals – including multi-day contested hearings.
  • Draft and review reports, business cases, and legal documentation for diverse audiences.
  • Support, supervise and develop junior legal staff.
  • Contribute to policy development, service improvement plans, and strategic projects.
  • Maintain accurate records using digital case management systems in a paperless environment.
  • Represent Legal & Governance in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Experience
  • Significant experience running a complex childcare caseload, including DOL/LPS and adoption.
  • Proven record in achieving 26-week care proceedings outcomes.
  • Strong advocacy experience, including contested and multi-day hearings.
  • Experience supervising and developing legal teams.
  • Proficient in digital case management systems and paperless workflows.
  • Experience advising on child protection strategies, policies, complaints, business cases and reports.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of child protection legislation, adoption law, DOL/LPS, public law, and local government law.
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to analyse legislation/case law and develop strategies to protect organisational interests.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Resilient, adaptable and able to work effectively under pressure.

Qualifications
  • Essential: Solicitor or Barrister qualified to practice in England & Wales
