Position Description: Activity Bus Driver

School Bus Drivers must possess or have the ability to acquire an appropriate commercial driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia; must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education; and possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Driving school bus; picking up and delivering students to/from activities.
  • Performs pre‑trip inspection of school bus; reports operating and equipment deficiencies.
  • Washes bus; cleans bus inside and out.
  • Fuels bus as required.
  • Obeys all traffic laws and observes mandatory safety regulations for school bus operations.
  • Transports only authorized students, school personnel and/or authorized chaperones on special trips.
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
  • Transports students to special events and field trips.
  • Records mileage; maintains various records and prepares a variety of reports on activities.
  • Ensures passenger safety; maintains discipline on bus; makes reports as necessary.
  • Makes bus available for scheduled maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
