At Radfield Home Care, our mission is to make ageing a more enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone involved. Our Live-in Carers play a vital role in making this happen every day. We are a family-run, forward-thinking care provider specialising in personalised care for older people in their own homes, setting high standards for what relationship-led, person-centred care should look like.

About The Role

We are seeking a proactive, physically fit and highly experienced Live-in Care Professional to support a client in the KT21 area. This role is supporting someone living with mid to late-stage dementia, where consistency, reassurance and calm confidence are essential. The client is often guided by how she feels in the moment rather than memory, and her engagement and mood can change quickly. She may also experience periods of anxiety and paranoia, requiring a care professional who is highly skilled in de-escalation and able to respond calmly, confidently and professionally at all times.

A key aspect of this role is that the client may follow or shadow the carer closely throughout the day, often wanting to remain nearby or involved in what the carer is doing. The successful candidate must be comfortable with this level of proximity while maintaining boundaries, structure and a calm, reassuring presence. The approach required is one of gentle encouragement, not control or takeover. This is about supporting independence through prompting, routine, and muscle memory, allowing the client to remain involved in her own care wherever possible. There can be resistance around personal care, so experience in supporting people in a dignified, non-confrontational way is essential.

About The Client

The client lives at home with her husband and benefits from a calm, structured and engaging daily routine. She has a warm and sociable personality and enjoys:

  • Daily walks
  • Visits to garden centres
  • Playing piano
  • Scrabble and word games
  • Dancing
  • Gardening
  • Hosting and being around people

She enjoys company and engagement, and thrives when gently encouraged to take part in familiar, meaningful activities. Meal preparation will be for both the client and her husband, focusing on fresh, home-cooked meals.

Key responsibilities

  • Personal care delivered with sensitivity, encouragement and dignity
  • Supporting independence through prompting and gentle guidance
  • Preparing home-cooked meals for client and spouse
  • Light housekeeping and maintaining a calm, safe home environment
  • Companionship and emotional reassurance
  • Planning and supporting daily activities and outings
  • Supporting daily walks and community engagement (garden centres, local trips)
  • Managing and de-escalating anxiety and paranoia episodes
  • Working calmly in an environment where the client may closely follow or shadow the carer throughout the day
  • Maintaining structure, routine and reassurance throughout

What we are looking for

  • Minimum 2 years’ live-in care experience (required)
  • Extensive experience supporting mid to late-stage dementia (essential)
  • Confident supporting resistance with personal care in a calm, person-centred way
  • Proven experience in de-escalation and managing complex behaviours
  • Physically fit and able to support an active client (daily walks and outings required)
  • Comfortable working in a home environment where the client may remain in close proximity throughout the day
  • Naturally warm, patient, and highly resilient
  • Strong communication and professional judgement
  • UK driving licence (required)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Extensive dementia training and hands-on experience is absolutely essential for this role.

Job details

  • Full-time live-in care role
  • Self-employed basis
  • Home-based live-in position

Additional information

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The position involves working with vulnerable individuals and is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

Rate of pay £1,200 per week + £50 food allowance
