Role Description
We are looking for an Accounting Assistant working on a part-time contract basis approx. 5 days per month to start with, based in our National Office in Shrewsbury, with flexibility to work from home.
The Accounting Assistant will support the Finance Director with the month end close, account reconcilations, VAT returns, maintaining accurate ledgers, and month end reporting.
The Accounting Assistant will also work closely with the finance team to manage bookkeeping tasks, update data in accounting software, and respond to routine financial queries from internal stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong foundational knowledge in Accounting and Finance, with the ability to apply basic principles to daily tasks.
- Experience with month end close, financial reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, year end preparation, quarterly VAT returns and general knowledge of bookkeeping activities, including maintaining ledgers, bank reconciliations and credit control.
- Ability to assist in preparing and reviewing Financial Statements and other routine financial reports.
- Proficiency with Xero Accounting Software and standard office productivity tools (e. g., spreadsheets and word processing).
- Part-qualified or training in accounting, finance, or a related field (e. g., CIMA, AAT or similar certification) is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
- Ability to work on your own with the flexibility to manage the needs of the business.
