About the Opportunity
Rack Native are supporting National Data Works in the search for a permanent Data Cabling Engineer to join their growing delivery team based out of Leicester. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer looking for long-term stability, progression, and the chance to work alongside a Senior Engineer on a wide range of projects across the UK. You’ll be joining a business delivering structured cabling solutions across commercial environments, data centres, industrial sites, and retail estates, with consistent project flow and strong technical leadership.
Role Overview
As a Data Cabling Engineer, you will support the installation, termination, and testing of structured cabling systems. Working alongside a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering projects to a high standard across multiple environments. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone confident on the tools and looking to further develop within a growing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation of structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A)
- Fibre optic installation, termination, and testing (desirable)
- Installation of containment systems (tray, basket, trunking, conduit)
- Dressing and terminating cables into cabinets and patch panels
- Labelling and documentation in line with project specifications
- Supporting testing using Fluke (or similar) testers
- Working to drawings, schematics, and site plans
- Assisting the Senior Engineer with project delivery and site coordination
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with H&S and industry standards
Requirements
- Proven experience in structured cabling installations
- Strong knowledge of copper cabling systems (Cat5e / Cat6 / Cat6A)
- Experience working on commercial or industrial sites
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Willingness to travel nationwide and stay away when required
Desirable Certifications / Experience
- ECS Card (Network Infrastructure / Datacomms preferred)
- CNCI or equivalent industry certification
- Fibre optic experience (splicing, testing, termination)
- IPAF / PASMA
- Experience working in data centre environments
- Familiarity with Fluke DSX or similar testing equipment
