Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Yard Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the yard area, ensuring that all materials and equipment are organised and accessible. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to operate various vehicles, including delivery vans and flatbed lorries. A background in warehouse operations or mechanical knowledge is advantageous.
Responsibilities
Always wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Report any loss or damage of safety equipment to the Workshop Foreman.
Maintain awareness and adherence to the Company’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) management systems.
Safely load and unload goods in accordance with the company’s loading checklist.
Receive and check deliveries into the works and mark all items with identity tags.
Organise and store materials correctly to prevent damage and enable efficient access.
Maintain a clean and tidy yard, ensuring all escape routes and access paths are clear.
Prepare steelwork and associated items for fabrication according to company standards.
Hold and maintain a valid driving license appropriate for the assigned vehicle. • Drive in full compliance with all traffic laws and notify management of any infringements.
Ensure weekly vehicle checks, including oil, water, fuel, and tyre pressures • Keep company vehicles clean and well-maintained.
Promptly report any vehicle faults or accidents.
Secure loads to meet legal and safety requirements, ensuring the vehicle operates within load limits and overhang restrictions.
Maintain clear communication with the team and management.
Perform any other duties as necessary to fulfill the role effectively
Experience
Valid CSCS Card.
Clean UK Driving Licence.
Competent in Manual Handling.
Valid Forklift Licence.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
Experience in the construction or structural steel industry is a plus
