The Race Equality Foundation is an evidence-based, policy and practice charity working to end racism and racial inequalities. Our mission is to tackle racism in UK society and positively transform the lives of the UK’s Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities. To achieve this, we generate and share evidence and best practice on what works to dismantle systemic racism, always through the lens of intersectionality. We influence policy makers, decision makers and practitioners and drive systemic change.
To aid this, we convene partnerships and networks, trial new ways of working and support our communities to tackle racism. Our recent research has included a co-produced review of the experience of health and care of people of Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic background with a learning disability; a study on the recording of ethnicity in health, carried out in parallel with a study by the Office for National Statistics; an exploration of physical health checks for people with severe mental illness from African and Caribbean communities, and more.
We use evidence to deploy effective solutions and deliver change in a number of areas. Our ground-breaking response to COVID-19 and the related racial inequalities saw us influence the Government’s overall response, as well as working with voluntary and community sector organisations to improve the support available to Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities.
We have produced pioneering research which saw us interview 38 Black and minoritised ethnic young disabled people to understand their experience of independence and independent living and have worked to improve blood pressure testing of African and Caribbean men using community facilities such as barber shops. As well as this, our Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) inclusive parenting programme is now one of the largest of its kind in the country, with a focus on reaching marginalised parents who are often excluded from mainstream services. It consistently engages ‘poorly served’ parents through a culturally competent curriculum and has become a key violence prevention tool in communities across England.
We are based in London and Manchester but have a national remit. The Foundation is led by the CEO, Jabeer Butt, OBE and has its work supervised by a Board of Trustees.
The Race Equality Foundation has been awarded a transformative multi-year grant from The National Lottery Community Fund (TNLCF) as part of its Health Inequities: Structural Racism and Discrimination Partnership. The programme will establish three Anti-Racism Collaboratives (ARCs), each bringing together voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations, people with lived experience, health and care organisations, local authorities and other partners to tackle the structural causes of ethnic health inequities through co-production, evidence and collective action.
As Programme Coordinator, you will play a central role in enabling the successful delivery of this ambitious programme. Working closely with the Lead Changemaker, Changemakers and colleagues across the Foundation, you will ensure the programme has the systems, coordination and administrative support needed to deliver high-quality partnership working and meaningful co-production across the three ARCs. This is a varied role requiring excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. You will coordinate meetings and events, maintain programme systems and records, support communications, and ensure partners and community members are well supported to participate in programme activities. By enabling the smooth day-to-day operation of the programme, you will help create the conditions for partners and communities to work together to tackle structural racism and reduce health inequities.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain programme management systems, including contact databases, CRM records, programme schedules, calendars and other coordination tools.
- Coordinate updates to programme webpages and digital resources, ensuring information is accurate, accessible and up to date.
- Support the communications team in preparing programme communications, digital content and other public-facing outputs.
- Maintain programme documentation and support the collection and organisation of information used for monitoring, learning and evaluation.
- Coordinate the practical arrangements for research, engagement and qualitative data collection activities.
- Provide administrative and coordination support to Changemakers in the preparation of reports, presentations and other programme outputs.
- Provide day-to-day coordination and communication with ARC host organisations, Co-Production Panel members, community organisations, statutory partners, funders and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate meetings and activities for the Anti-Racism Collaboratives (ARCs) and Co-Production Panels (CPPs), ensuring they are well organised and effectively supported.
- Support inclusive participation by arranging accessible venues, interpretation, reasonable adjustments, participant payments and other practical requirements for community involvement.
- Respond to enquiries from community members, partner organisations and other stakeholders.
- Record decisions and actions arising from meetings and monitor progress against agreed actions.
- Organise and support programme meetings, workshops, learning events and stakeholder events.
Person Specification
Essential
- An understanding of structural racism, health inequities and the Race Equality Foundation's commitment to anti-racist practice.
- At least 12 months' experience in programme or project coordination, administration or a similar role.
- Experience of maintaining records and managing information using spreadsheets, databases or other digital systems.
- Experience of organising meetings, events or activities involving multiple stakeholders.
- Experience of responding professionally to enquiries by email and telephone.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately to deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, community organisations and external partners.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.

Travel and hours of work
Applicants will be expected to be able to travel across London and Manchester. Full-time staff work 35 hours a week with office hours being 9am to 5pm. However, because of the nature of some of the tasks to be performed by this post, evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Pay and Conditions of Service
This post is full time and full-time annual salary is £31,725 inclusive of London Weighting. The normal working week is 35 hours for full time posts, seven hours per day, Monday to Friday. Standard office hours are 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m. We operate a hybrid working policy with work from home and the office, however there will be an expectation of regular attendance at the Race Equality Foundation’s London office at 17 Deane House Studios, 27 Greenwood Place, NW5 1LB. Full time staff are entitled to 25 days holiday rising to 31 after five years of service. The timing of holidays must fit in with the needs of the Race Equality Foundation and must be agreed in advance. In addition to annual holidays there is paid time off for Bank holidays. There are also maternity and paternity leave, compassionate leave and sick leave provisions.
