Are you an experienced qualitative researcher with a passion for equity in health and social care? Do you want to be part of a ground-breaking project that will give voice to the lived experiences of ethnic minority communities facing serious illness or bereavement? Race Equality First is seeking a dynamic and skilled Senior Research Officer to lead a vital two-year study exploring the experiences, barriers and needs of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) people accessing palliative and end-of-life care in South Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a culturally sensitive, community-led research project that will inform service improvements and influence national policy.

Salary: £40,000 per year + 3% pension

Hours: Full-time (37 hours/week)

Contract: Fixed Term – 2 Years (until 30 June 2027)

Location: Hybrid (Cardiff office base + fieldwork across South Wales)

About the Role

You will be responsible for the end-to-end design, delivery and analysis of this qualitative research project, working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, local communities, religious representatives, and healthcare providers. Your work will involve building trust with communities, facilitating in-depth interviews and focus groups and producing impactful reports and recommendations that can lead to real change.

We’re Looking for Someone Who Can:

  • Design and lead community-centred qualitative research
  • Engage sensitively with people from diverse cultural and faith backgrounds
  • Facilitate interviews and focus groups on topics of illness, dying and bereavement
  • Produce robust thematic analysis and compelling written reports
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the voluntary, health and community sectors

You Will Bring:

  • Experience in delivering qualitative research projects, especially with marginalised communities
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organisational skills
  • A deep understanding of racial inequalities and cultural barriers in health and social care
  • The ability to work independently and flexibly as part of a small, committed team
  • Empathy, integrity and cultural sensitivity
