Gray's Specialty Equipment segment offers a comprehensive range of expert services, including design, manufacturing, integration, installation, and maintenance of some of the most advanced systems in the food, industrial, pharmaceutical, and vacuum science markets. From components to fully integrated equipment, we provide purpose-built solutions that integrate seamlessly into larger facility design-build, expansion, and retrofit projects.
The Specialty Equipment segment includes Anderson Dahlen, located in Ramsey, MN and Waconia, MN, and AD Process Equipment, located in Naperville, IL. Anderson Dahlen specializes in stainless steel and specialty alloy fabrication and is ISO 9001:2015 certified, as well as ASME, AWS, and PED compliant. AD Process Equipment features a dedicated control panel fabrication shop, in-house engineering capabilities, and manufacturing space to support customized process system solutions.
The wage range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; as well as other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $23.00 to $35.00 hourly.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
Plans and performs a wide variety of welding, layout, cutting, brazing, and soldering operations on a variety of parts, components, and assemblies.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Welds all including materials in structural and sheet metal sizes and shapes, utilizing a full range of welding processes including, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), plasma and oxyacetylene cutting along with brazing.
- Selects rod, wire, tips, and electrodes for specific operation to be performed.
- Fits and positions parts in accordance with drawing specifications using locating fixtures and measuring devices as required. Creates fixtures as needed.
- Checks work as necessary to assure holding prescribed tolerances to maintain quality standards.
- Tack welds as necessary and perform all positions of welding, sometimes in confined spaces.
- Works from drawings, sketches, welding symbols, specifications, and instructions to plan work in proper operational sequence and determine methods and techniques to be applied.
- Identifies job flow problems and causes and recommends corrective action to ensure timely and efficient production effort.
- Interprets drawings, sketches, welding symbols, specifications, and instructions to determine methods and techniques to be applied.
- Uses care to lay a smooth bead, obtains proper penetration and fusion, displays ability to manage distortion of weldments, detects defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report it to the supervisor.
- Performs any assembly of products that may be required.
- Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Welds and finishes to customers specifications, applying various finishes as needed, on all size weldments. Customer appearance is a necessity.
- May perform periodic field work per instructed.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:
- Welder qualifications per ASME Section IX and/or AWS D1.1 for GTAW, FCAW and/or GMAW in Horizontal, Vertical, Overhead, and/or All Positions.
- A minimum of 3+ years of welding experience.
- Working towards completing training Crane and forklift trained and competent in operation and rigging.
- Ability to demonstrate strong math skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools, measuring instruments, and operation of welding equipment including machine settings for various welding processes.
- Ability to work on intricate welding processes, both hand and machine, to develop complex fabrications to closely prescribed standards.
- Ability to perform some fixturing and set-up as required.
