If so, this is a fantastic opportunity to join the RAC as our Payroll Manager, leading our People Support division, ensuring the smooth and compliant delivery of payroll and colleague lifecycle services across the organisation.

As the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing our outsourced payroll service and People Support team, ensuring all colleague lifecycle processes, governance checks and service standards are delivered accurately, on time and in line with compliance and audit requirements. You’ll play a key role in driving continuous improvement, developing the team, and strengthening the colleague experience across the People Support function.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver excellent People Support services across the RAC, including first-line colleague support, lifecycle processes and the management of outsourced payroll.
  • Ensure outsourced payroll and administration services meet agreed SLAs, compliance standards and deliver an exceptional colleague experience.
  • Lead and manage the People Support team, ensuring cost effective delivery and identifying opportunities for process improvements aligned with business and statutory requirements.
  • Own the end-to-end monthly payroll process, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery and reporting into Finance.
  • Oversee People Support performance standards, recommending and implementing enhancements.
  • Develop the People Support team to ensure their advice, technical capabilities and service delivery remain current and aligned to organisational needs.
  • Foster a high-performance culture through coaching, development plans and regular feedback.
  • Work collaboratively across the People Team, including delivering workshops and developing tools to support consistent practice.
  • Oversee accurate input of fixed and variable pay each month, ensuring all reconciliation checks and governance controls meet audit requirements.
  • Lead People Support–related projects including P11D/PSA reporting, year end.
  • Proactively measure and manage the impact of People Support services on the business.
  • Provide advice on the People Support implications of business or organisational change.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, legislation and internal policies.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Proven technical expertise in payroll.
  • Experience with both inhouse and outsourced payroll models.
  • Strong operational people management experience.
  • Demonstrable payroll reconciliation experience.
  • Experience using Resource Link is essential.
  • Strong MS Word, Excel and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
  • Strong appreciation of risk, control and compliance requirements.

Qualifications:

  • CIPD or CIPP qualification (desirable).
  • Highly IT literate.
  • Minimum of five GCSEs (A–C or equivalent).
