Job Title:Advanced Shipfitter (Multi-Pass Tack and Burn)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Shipfitter with a minimum of four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter. The ideal candidate will be skilled in Multipass pass tack welding, blueprint interpretation, and structural assembly in a physically demanding shipyard environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform single and multi pass tack welding using the SMAW process.
  • Operate oxygen/propane burning and heating torches.
  • Interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
  • Measure and lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.
  • Assemble structural components to specification.
  • Use vibratory tools such as grinders and needle guns.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have Birth Certificate or Passport required.
  • Four years of commercial/naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter.
  • Ability to pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test (SMAW, MIL-10718-M (A-5A), 3F & 4F positions).
  • Ability to pass multiple pass tack weld tests and visual inspection.

Work Environment

Work is conducted in a large shipyard in Southeast Virginia. Conditions vary seasonally—hot and humid in summer, cool in winter. Work may take place aboard Navy vessels or in shop environments. Candidates must be flexible to work any shift:

  • 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 11:00 PM
  • 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Overtime may be available but is not guaranteed.

Compensation

  • Pay Rate:$45.00/hour

The pay range for this position is $45.00 – $45.00/hr.
