Job Description
The Senior Accountant is a key member of the family office team that ensures accounting, financial, and estate management services, along with key operational support provided in a proactive manner aligned with the key goals and objectives for the shareholders, family, and the operating company. The Senior Accountant is highly skilled, with strong tax and investment accounting expertise. This role requires a deep understanding of complex tax structures, individual, trust and partnership taxation, alternative investments, and accounting software. The Senior Accountant will oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities, ensure compliance with tax regulations, and support investment tracking and reporting.
Essential Position Responsibilities – This is a salary exempt position
Administer all accounting functions: general ledgers for trusts, partnerships, and investments; prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; manage inter-entity transactions, capital contributions and distributions, and partner allocations; oversee reconciliation of bank, brokerage, and investment accounts.
In coordination with the tax department: support all tax filings (individual, partnership, trust, gift, and estate returns); review K-1s, 1099s, and other tax documents; ensure proper tax treatment of investment activity.
In collaboration with the family office, support estate and financial planning efforts; assist with proactive tax planning, including investment and charitable giving strategies; support special projects including new entity formation, legacy planning, or philanthropic ventures.
Manage and administer investment activities: track capital calls and distributions, fees, and income; maintain investment schedules and performance tracking; assist in preparing investment summary reports and dashboards; ensure compliance with investment entity structures and partnership agreements.
Account for and report on cash & treasury activities: monitor cash flow across entities; recommend strategic movement of funds; coordinate wires, investment transactions, and liquidity planning; forecast capital needs related to investments, taxes, and expenses.
In collaboration with the family office, ensure general ledger and investment software is successfully implemented, configured, and integrated into workflow; tailor the software to meet the family office needs and integrate with existing systems. Ensure data integrity. Provide ongoing support to users. Create and maintain documentation for the software, including user guides, configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures. Enhance internal controls, accounting processes, and documentation. Assist in implementing additional solutions for accounting and reporting.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity in all interactions, handling sensitive matters with the utmost professionalism.
Ability to maintain flexibility, with willingness to be on call outside of traditional work hours, as needed.
Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues, e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems – including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Travel: As needed based on work requirements.
Technical Experience: Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience within a family office, public accounting, or investment-focused environment. Strong understanding of tax regulations for partnerships, trusts, and pass-through entities. Advanced experience with investment accounting for alternatives. Skilled in accounting and tax software. Strong organizational and time management skills, with an ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interface with various stakeholders including team members, shareholders, and family members. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
Industry Experience: A minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience within a family office, public accounting, or investment-focused environment; solid understanding of accounting and tax principles and financial reporting. Experience in family office or investment firm operations is a significant advantage.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CFP or CPA designation preferred.
