Key Responsibilities (for OT/COTA):

  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students' fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, self-care abilities, and other areas impacting their educational participation.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) with measurable goals and objectives.
  • Provide direct occupational therapy interventions, individually or in small groups, focusing on areas such as:
  • Fine motor skills (handwriting, cutting, manipulation of small objects)
  • Visual-motor and perceptual skills
  • Sensory processing and regulation strategies
  • Self-help and daily living skills (dressing, feeding, hygiene)
  • Gross motor skills affecting classroom participation
  • Assistive technology recommendations and training
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to integrate therapeutic strategies into the classroom and home environments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, therapy sessions, and IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Educate staff and families on occupational therapy strategies and adaptive techniques.

    Qualifications:

    For Occupational Therapist (OT):

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current and valid New Mexico Occupational Therapist license.
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification.

    For Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA):

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current and valid New Mexico Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license.
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification.
  • Experience working in a school setting or with pediatric populations is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
