Position Summary
Bridge munication gaps between deaf and hard of hearing students and their educational teams through professional American Sign Language interpretation. Your skills will enable full participation in academic instruction, social activities, and school munity events while maintaining interpreting ethics and standards.
Work across diverse educational programs serving students from early childhood through high school graduation. Adapt interpreting approaches to meet individual munication needs and academic content requirements. Collaborate with educators to ensure optimal munication access in all learning environments.
Essential Functions
Deliver accurate and culturally appropriate interpretation between ASL and spoken English during educational activities. Maintain professional boundaries while advocating for munication accessibility and student rights. Position effectively within learning spaces to provide clear visual access for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Prepare for interpreting assignments through curriculum review and vocabulary research. Attend IEP meetings and educational planning sessions as requested by teams. Document interpreting services and municate relevant information regarding student munication patterns and needs.
Required Qualifications
Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 minimum required. Two years of documented professional interpreting experience in school settings. Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language with strong grammatical petency. Understanding of deaf culture and munity perspectives.
Physical capabilities necessary for sustained interpreting work including visual focus and manual dexterity. Professional demeanor and appearance suitable for educational environments. Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity. Dependable attendance and mitment to consistent service provision.
Preferred Qualifications
EIPA score of 4.0 or higher indicating superior interpreting abilities. Written EIPA pletion demonstrating prehensive ASL knowledge and skills. Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or National Interpreter Certification (NIC) with written ponent. Experience interpreting plex academic content across subject areas.
Training in serving students with additional disabilities or learning differences. Knowledge of educational terminology and classroom procedures. Professional development in specialized areas such as mental health interpreting or assistive technology.
