Responsibilities

We are looking for the right physician to join our collegial and supportive employed Hospitalist group at our Flagstaff, AZ campus at Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH), playing a critical role in advancing our mission of "improving health, healing people". The hospitalist group is led by a working hospitalist, reporting to a physician. The NAH vision is grounded in our intention to transform the health of the communities we serve in Flagstaff, Sedona, Cottonwood and all of Northern Arizona. Flagstaff Medical Center is the transfer center, Level 1 trauma center, and tertiary care destination for Northern Arizona with a catchment that extends from past the New Mexico border to the California border, and brings challenging and interesting cases to our mid-sized hospital and city. We enjoy extensive subspecialist support despite the hospital's friendly size. Our hospital and group have a culture of hospitalists leading within the organization and directing patient care. We enjoy excellent relationships with all of our surgeons and other specialties and work collaboratively for the wellness of our patients.

Support structure:

  • Hospitalists teams: 8 rounding teams, 2 admitting teams, and 2 nocturnist teams, 27 total hospitalists.
  • 183 budgeted/paid shifts per year, of which 166 shifts are worked after leave and CME
  • Mix: Rounding about 7 out of 9 shifts, admitting 1 shift, and swing 1 shift
  • Backup assignment approximately 4-5 times per quarter with stipend paid regardless of whether you are called in.

  • Total 168 worked shifts plus 12-16 "backup call off-site" days with stipend for full time
  • Full experienced nocturnist service is separately staffed
  • No RVU based compensation, with a reasonable census
  • True average census is 16 (14-18)

  • 100% physician hospitalist service with no mid-level supervision duties

  • 30 days per year "schedule black out" time for longer vacations, other requested time off possible

Hospitalists are supported by: Neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, 24H on site critical care, gastroenterology, plastic/hand surgery, interventional radiology, neurology, palliative care, endocrinology, urology, pulmonology, trauma surgery with trauma ICU, orthopedics, ortho/spine, inpatient psychiatry, among others.
